I just got a new hv canon camera and just updated my vegas 6 to vegas 8 but I can not capture at all. I get this message
The device ‘Microsoft AV/C Tape Subunit Device’ could not be opened
I have searched this forum and i have seen that the answer seems to be switching from internal to external..or is it the other way around..anyway i have looked in all the places the posts say i can do that and there is nothing there. I went to options, preferences, video and not a single box that says internal or external. All i find that mentions capturing is preferred capture application which is set at vidcap60exe. Ok so how do i change this? Is this something that can only be done on platinum version? If so is there no hope for my version capturing from the canon? Thanks for all the help.
Oh sorry one more thing that may help in your answer. I have the fire wire plugged into the one place in the back of the computer that it fits into but i think i may need to buy a new fire wire card however i would think the options in vegas would be there whether the device is set up right or not.

This message means your camera is not connected through Firewire.
I have an HV20 and it works fine with VPro8. Make sure that:
    1. in the hv20 in VCR mode the AV->dv is off (go into the mean menu to check).
    2. Make sure your firewire cable and board works. Sometime unplugging the FW cable and plugging it in will connect the camera.
The HV20 works well with VPro8 both in DV and HDV mode. In fact I am capuring with that set up as I am writing this.

I am trying to capture HD from my Canon HV20. Vegas 7.0e recognizes the Canon HV20 and I can control the tape from Vegas and I see the video in the capture window but when I hit the red button to capture I get the following message:
    “A failure occured in Capture.
    Failed to start capture.”
the details view does not add any additional information.
I searched for someone posting a similar problem and your post was the closest I could find.
