  • Capturing from Aiptek A-HD

I am working on a documentary, shooting mostly with a Sony Z1U, capturing onto and editing on Avid Xpress Pro HD on a Mac tower. I am loaning a couple of little $150 Aiptek A-HD camera to teenage characters to use on their own. These tiny cameras record onto sd cards. I want to figure out the best way to get them into my Avid project to edit.

Ideally I’d love to be able to load the video onto my laptop on the road, but I just have a regular Macbook with iMovie (not hd). (The Macbook has a 2.16 ghz core 2 duo and memory is 1gb 667 mhz ddr2 sdram – I’m assuming I can’t run my Avid software on this computer, but I haven’t tried). But if I can’t load video from the sd cards to my laptop, in any case I want to figure out how I’m ultimately going to get it into the Avid project when I get home.

Here is the format info the manufacturer provides:

    “Video Format
    .MOV”

“The A-HD performs 720P high definition video quality to provide a whole new high quality DV experience. One-touch recording allows you to capture stunning HD (1280 x 720 – 16:9 aspect ratio) video clips at 30 frames per second with advanced H.264 technology.”

Software provided: “Media Player 11 Decoder for AIPTEK* .MOV Video Files”

    Movie Mode
    1280 x 720 Pixels (H.264) up to 30 fps
    720 x 480 Pixels (D1) up to 30 fps
    352 x 240 Pixels (CIF) up to 30 fps

I have edited for many years, but in terms of my technical understanding of the intricacies of codecs and so on, I’m one of those “just learn enough to do what I need to do” kind of guys.

Anyone have any potential solutions to this?
