I captured one tape on this video camera (Canon HV20), but now with the next tape I keep getting the message:
    failed to initialize video deck

I have quit and restarted final cut pro unplugged and replugged all cords –

    any suggestions?

    Thanks!

Is the camcorder connected and set to playback mode before you launch FCP? If so, try going to View>Refresh A/V devices. If that doesn’t work, try going to Final Cut Pro>Audio/Video Settings and make sure your Device Control Preset corresponds to the video you are trying to capture.

You didn’t mention what version of Final Cut you are using.
    Is it Express or Pro?
    Which version?
Which Mac are you running it on?
Is your camera compatible with your version of Final Cut?
Did you check Apple’s website for hardware compatibility?
