Hi my first post. I’m running FCP 5.1 on a G5 IMAC OS 10.4.8 (pre Intel) I have set up a Sony DR60 Portable Hard Drive to record off a Sony Z1 HDV Camcorder, no problems. When I download the captured files to the desktop I’m presented with 2 HD icons a DVF {empty} and a HDVF that contains 3 file types, a .IDX a .M2T a .HDV. I feel that the .HDV is the one to focus on. The question is this. How do I convert this file so FCP Browser will accept it without an error notice. I believe that Apple have a solution. Keeping in mind that I’m a novice, perhaps a member may be able to come to my rescue. Thank you. Ron

My suggestion is to do an HDV 1080i easy set up in FCP and then capture the footage from the log and capture window. Name it one thing and when there is a pause or stop break it will automatically name it _2, _3 etc…

The other option is to convert the footage via MPEG Streamclip into HDV. That’s a free downloadable program. It looks fine but the double compression aspect of it makes me nervous so i do log and capture.

The Log & Capture Window is my best option. My thanks.
