Capturing footage
Hello,
I am getting ready to start editing a project.
The film was shot using a Canon xl2 set to 4:3 and 30p
There are camtasia screen shots that I captured using 1280X960 with the expectation of bringing it into FCP at 4:3 ratio. But I was dismayed to find out that the XL2 captures at 720X480. But when you enter 720 into the 4:3 calculator you get 720X540.So what am I missing her ladies and gents?
Every forum says to use the NTSC DV easy setup.
Can I set my sequence settings to 640X480?
I’m am lost and I don’t want to have a mess when I get ready to export.What is the best:
1) capture settings
2) sequence settings
So that ultimately I can export in 4:3?Thanks

native SD DV is 720 x 480. Capture and Sequence settings should be this. Yuu can resize your Camtasia to whatever you like, either within Final Cut by scaling, or by exporting from Quicktime player.
Not sure what your final output is, so it’s hard to say what to export at. If it’s a DVD….just export as DV, if it’s something different, just try to keep the same aspect ratio (360 x 240, etc.) so things don’t get squished. Hope this helps.
