I’ve never had to capture anything other than DVCAM tapes in NTSC 16:9 @ 29.97 fps on my copy of Final Cut before, but a friend has asked me to capture some DVCPRO tapes for him. He’s going to provide a deck for me. I’m just wondering what capture preset I should be using? He only told me that it was DVCPRO 50 that he shot at 24p.

I looked at the DV50 NTSC 48 kHz capture preset, but a few things popped out at me, the aspect ratio was set at 3:2 (720 x 480) and the ending timebas was set at 29.97. As well, if I go into the QuickTime Video Settings, I’m presented with even more options.. another dialogue for FPS, another for aspect ratio, and one for scan mode, interlaced or progressive.

Anyone able to help me figure out what I need to capture this properly?

I capture DV50 format all the time. For 16×9 DV50, I choose the Easy Set-up for DV50 codec anamorphic. Then when editing, set the sequence to the same. It should work fine without any other adjustments

Alright, thanks. I won’t be the one editing, just capturing, so I guess “DV50 NTSC 48kHz Anamorphic” it is.
