I’m having trouble capturing footage into Premiere Pro from my SD card, which was shot with a Canon C100. Some of the footage is 60i – some is 24p. No ideal, I realize, but when I go to capture, Premiere doesn’t even recognize the card when I insert it.

I feel like this is one of those, “did you forget to do this obvious thing”, but I’m stuck.

    I’m using Premiere Pro CS6.
    I’m on an iMac 10.8.3

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

Not necessarily…I’ve had PPro not want to read the card from C300 before. Not sure why. I’ve grown accustomed to using Prelude to ingest media. I’ve never had it not see the card (provided the director structure is in place).

You can also Canon XF utility to pull the clips out and make them self-contained MXF files. Then you can drop those into PPro or transcode to your codec of choice.

Your mac card reader might not be capable if it’s a newer card. Try an external usb card reader.

Thanks, Ryan! I installed Canon’s Utility Import tool, and the MTS files imported perfectly.

In the past, I always assumed FCP/Premiere would ingest these formats easily, since they are widely used. Luckily I didn’t toss the Canon software.

    Thanks!
