  • Capturing BetaSP footage via AJA Kona LHi to 1080i in Premiere Pro 6.0.2

I am trying to capture analog footage on a Sony UVW1800 from BetaSP tape into Premiere Pro 6.0.2 through AJA Kona LHi. I have set up the LHi to upconvert this footage from 525i29.97 to 1080i29.97. I have played around with various settings in Premiere Pro. With the best match, the upconvert works great but two disturbing things happen. The audio and video, the clip, when played back appears to be speeded up. The audio has a chipmunk or Mickey Mouse sound. The video goes by faster than it did on the BetaSP tape. And, I get many hundreds of small files on my hard drive relating to each capture attempt. I have talked at length with AJA about this and they believe duplicate frames are being generated, causing this result. Let me hasten to add that if I set AJA to capture this same footage 525i29.97 to 525i29.97, the results are perfect. I would like to bring this footage up into current parameters, i.e. 16 x 9, and increase the quality, both of which I hope to do by upconverting to 1080i29.97. Any suggestions out there? Thanks.
