  • Capturing analogue via VX 2100

I have connected an analogue camcorder to my Sony VX2100 and, I have followed all the instructions in the manual to convert the signal to digital and capture it to my PC using Vegas Movie Studio. When I start the analogue camcorder with the VCR switched on on my VX2100 the video runs clearly in my VX2100 LCD screen. However, on the PC the video shows briefly for one second then it says “Device Stopped.” If I switch to Advance capture the same thing happens. I have tried with and without a tape in my VX2100, all to no avail. The VX2100 is set for AVin/DV out. Any thoughts please? So grateful for your past help.

I would first try a different fire wire cord.

That’s the only one I’ve got! It works perfectly when I input video from a tape in my VX2100. In fact, when trying the aforementioned transfer I tried pressing the play button on the VX2100 and it captured that tape instead of the one from the analogue camcorder.

Can you capture the analog tape on your 2100. In other words copy your tape from analoge to digital on the camera?

I have managed to do this but there is a line across the screen a little way up from the bottom. This is there whether I set recording for normal or widescreen for the analogue non-widescreen tape. I cannot simultaneously capture it in Video capture; although the video shows the moving image it stops as soon as I press the record button on the PC screen. If all else fails I may have to reinstall my old Pinnacle beakout box for use with the analogue film. I assume that it automatically converts to digital when captured in Vegas movie.

    Let me see…

You can capture in Vegas from the 2100.

You can capture on the 2100 from your analog source.

As a work around for now why not do two captures. One onto tape in your 2100 and the second from the 2100 to Vegas? You shouldn’t lose anything in the second capture.

The problem sounds to me like a menu setting in your 2100. I have a PD150 at home. When I go home tonight I’ll set it up and see what happens.

I am not sure why the line near the bottom edge is there, otherwise I agree that this would be the way to do it. I await your further coments. Thanks.

In the capture program, turn OFF “Device Control”

It worked! Many thanks to Jeremy and Ed for your help. No doubt I shall be contacting you again. It’s a long distance from here in Norfolk, England to the States, so God bless the Internet! Incidentally my son is a senior graphics specialist with HP in Fort Collins.
