Capturing 8mm and hi-8 video using digital 8 camera – best settings
I recently bought a Sony DCR-TRV 320 camera (PAL version) to capture loads of old 8mm and hi-8 tapes that have been sitting around gathering dust.
I’ve had no problems at all capturing via the Firewire lead and it’s all working smoothly.
At the moment I’m using the DV-PAL preset for capturing in the footage but I’m just wondering if that is the best option to use? The video window doesn’t seem to match up exactly (there is some flickering along the bottom of the captured footage) and the colour of the footage doesn’t seem to capture particularly well, either becoming desaturated or in some cases heavily overexposed.
I know the quality of 8mm and hi8 isn’t particularly great to begin with but just want to be sure I’m using the best settings. My captured footage is perfectly watchable, just looks better on the camera than when captured.
