  • Capture Z1U footage into 4.5HD?

Posted by Sherwood Ball on September 14, 2006 at 4:23 pm

A buddy out of state is grabbing some second unit footage for me on his
    Sony Z1U.

I was going to rent a deck to capture the footage via firewire
into my DV 720×480 48kHz project in Final Cut Pro 4.5 HD.

I have the 5.0 disks but was waiting til I’m done with my project
    to update.

Is it possible to capture this Z1U footage from the tape into 4.5?

    Workaround?

No, he does not have the time to capture the footage and send it to me, which would be ideal. waaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

    Thnx.

    Jerry,
Would I still need this utility running the latest FCPro5?

If I put another system folder on my second internal drive
and installed FCPro5 on that drive, then booted from the second drive,
would I be able to capture in the latest 5 without this utility?

If so, any workarounds or tips for switching between boot up disks
    and FCP versions.

I only need to capture the footage and then put it in my 4.5HD
    project.

I’m afraid to convert the whole feature documentary from 4.5HD
into 5.0 when I have my fest submission due in a week.

If the safest method is use this utility in 4.5HD, then I’ll do that.

    Much appreciated.

If you upgrade, you wouldn’t need that software for anything but JVC’s 24p HDV… until the next release of FCP 5.1.2…I think that will support the short GOP recordings.

    Do the crossgrade now maybe?

I’ve written an article about upgrading and dual booting… it’s in the first issue of the COW magazine which you can get for free by subscribing… https://forums.creativecow.net/cgi-bin/new_page_wrapper.cgi?forumid=1&page=https://www.creativecow.net/magazine/cowmag_subscribe.html It’s about running a Rock Solid FCP system.. explains it all.

I have upgraded successfully over and over using the method decribed in the article. Even mid project. You just open a COPY of your project file in the new setup which can be on a second startup disk or partition.
