capture window freeze
Posted by Alan Condra on March 14, 2007 at 2:06 amI am using PP 1.0. When I use the capture window to capture footage off DV, Premiere freezes every time at the end of a single capture or a batch capture. Eventually it unfreezes on its own – after 20 seconds or so. I am experiencing the same freeze when I create a new folder within PP. Suggestions?

March 14, 2007 at 1:35 pmHi
It is normal that PP freeze the frame if you have come to the last frame on the DV-tape (capture).
My first thought is that you have a broken Timecode. You also may have a defect connection between the cam and your deck. (Broken firewire, A/V out on your cam or dockingpoint in the computer).
I had a lot of troubleshooting with my capture problem, and it showed to be a defect firewire.
Secondly I do not understand that something freeze when you move a file from folder to folder… (?)

March 14, 2007 at 2:01 pmIt does not appear to be anything to do with the deck, as it captures just fine – I have captured hundreds of clips while limping through the problem. The capture utility window hangs when it writes the file name to the project window. This seems to be more related to project manager than actually to the capture function.

March 14, 2007 at 6:28 pmIt actually doesn’t matter if I have captured anything or not. When I close the capture window, the freeze happens. That and when I create a new folder it also has the same effect.

March 30, 2007 at 1:34 pmThe computer seems to function ok during freeze, more or less. When PP is frozen, it does not refresh the screen very well. If I pop up a Windows Explorer window and then try to close or reduce it to the task bar, the screen either will not refresh or takes a very long time to do so.
Adobe suggests: Some problems may be caused by a damaged PluginCache file. To re-create this file, hold down the Shift key while choosing Start > Programs > Adobe Premiere Pro. Release the key when the Select Initial Workspace window appears.
However, when I try starting the program this way, PP ignores my attempts to recreate the cache file and opens normally.
I have reinstalled PP and still nothing seems to fix the issue. Suggestions?!!!

March 30, 2007 at 1:54 pmA little more research. I don’t seem to have the issue with other PP project files. It seems to be centered on this project file. Unless there is some specific fix to this file, I can probably limp along until this project is finished.
