  • Capture to root or other directory?

Posted by Valerie Shoaps on January 12, 2009 at 10:54 am

    Hi,

Rudimentary question. Is it best to capture to the root of my media drive/s or is FCP OK with capturing to a directory tree (ie. F:Media/project1/)? If going to the root, does having other files in the root wreak any havoc with FCP projects?

    Thanks

    Valerie,

Actually a very good question, as getting this right will always insure that your FCP projects are setup properly and setup the way other pros will expect them. These things are best when standardized and used consistently, so that collaborators anywhere can simply sit right down and get to work without having to ferret out someone’s creative directory structure.

So, when starting a new project always simply choose the root directory of your media drive (in the Easy Setup or in the FCP System Settings) and allow FCP to automatically create it’s own default directory structure, which will automatically create a sub-directory for each new project with the project name that you create when you initially save the project.
