Capture slowness with Tiger+FCP5
We are having an odd problem with our Decklink Pro and Decklink PRO HD cards that
happened as soon as we upgraded to OSX 10.4.2 and FCP 5.During capture mode the response is very very very very slow;
each click on some setting or option causes the spinning beach ball for many minutes; if you are patient most functions will
eventually work, but a five second clip could take 8 minutes to capture!In SD mode on a G4, this happens for any capture setting that uses the card, e.g. NTSC-DV which we use a lot
(SD video IN converted to DV for editing) capturing to LaCie Firewire drives.
In HD mode on a G5 with Xserve RAID it only happens using HD capture modes;
if we capture HDV from a deck or in non-HD mode if we invoke DV capture (bypassing the card) everything is fine.If we reboot either machine back to Panther (10.3.8 installed on the other internal drive, with FCP 4.5) everything is normal.
Of course we’ve tried trashing preferences, removing and re-installing the drivers, fixing permissions – nothing seems to help.
We have NOT yet invested the several hours it will take to trash everything and re-install Tiger and FCP5;
is that the next logical thing to do?Or has anyone seen something similar with a possible solution?
Thanks for any help; our heads are getting sore from all the scratching!
