Capture Settings on an Ancient System
Hello,
I’m on a G5 with a cinewave card capturing DVCAM footage from a Sony deck.
We finish to DVCAM on the same deck.
I’m in the middle of a small debate. We have been capturing with component cables using the “TARGA Cine YUV” compressor at 20.2 MB/sec.
In the last 2 days, I’ve had two people mention to me that if we capture from DVCAM and finish to DVCAM that we don’t need to be using component and could simply capture over firewire.

They would be correct, and you would be capturing digital video directly instead of going D to A to D (digital -analog – digital).

David, Thanks for the response.
So in my situation, capturing through firewire is superior to component, now I’m wondering what my capture and sequence settings would be.
Any comments and reiterations are much appreciated.

Just use the DV-NTSC East Setup (or DV PAL if you are in PAL land, of course).
