  • capture settings for variable frame rate Varicam footage

I am trying to capture DVCpro HD tapes shot on a varicam with different frame rates (24, 48 and 60) on each tape. I am capturing from a panasonic 1200a deck connecting to a G5 Mac from firewire 400 going to my external Hard drive (Lacie d2 quadra) that is connected via firewire 800. I am capturing in FCP 6.0.2. I am playing footage back from a Macpro Dual-Core Intel Xeon with the processor speed: 2.66 GHz.

I tried capturing with the following settings:
    Compressor: DVCPRO HD – 720p60 48 kHz
    Pixel Aspect: 960X720
    TC rate and fps: 59.94
I unchecked the “remove advanced pulldown/duplicate frames” option

All my footage is a bit jumpy. The 24, 48 and 60fps – all jumpy even when viewing the footage in quicktime or try dropping it in with different sequence settings.

    What did I do wrong?
-Would it help to capture from a Mac Pro?
-Do I need higher quality capturing card than just firewire?
    -Are my capture settings wrong?
-Do I need to capture different frame rates differently?
**How can I capture the highest quality footage with just firewire card and G5 mac?

    OR

Is there a way of fixing the jumpy footage using the built in DVCpro Frame Rate Converter or cinema tools? Is it possible that it is just a playback problem?

    Thanks!
    -Maria
