We just upgraded our Final Cut Studio to the latest version. We are having issues capturing video at the right frame size. Every time we capture there is a staggered white line at the very top of the video. It looks like we are a few pixels short of being full frame. As a result, I have to scale all my clips to a 102% in order to get rid of the excess room. It only happens at the top of the video too.

Am I missing a setting in the capture settings?

The funny thing is we can drop out to tape from Final Cut and it looks perfect. But when we export to quicktime you still see the line.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We can’t see your computer. What are you capturing? How are you capturing? What settings are on the media? What settings are you using in FCP? What you’re describing sounds like VITC.

    All the best,

Tom is on the right path. It sounds like the VITC has scrolled down a bit and onto your screen. This staggered white line is supposed to be above the video frame, but if your deck going in or capturing device are not set correctly for reference then you see the white lines.

This would explain why your video has the lines on it in quicktimes, but then when you go out to tape the deck going outward sees reference and lines up the video correctly.

Try playing with your reference or blackburst generator.

We’re capturing DVCam through a Kona LSe card. Our capture settings are set to Kona 29.97 uncompressed 4.2.2.

When we select the Kona uncompressed setting as our capture preference it automatically sets the size to 720×486.
