capture settings
Right, I’ve used at least 6 differrent DV cameras now with FCP HD4 and no matter what i do, when i load it in, the quality is rubbish. It looks crystal in the viewfinder but as soon as it’s captured, if i try and blow it up or write to DVD i suffer HUGE loss in quality.
I’ve never changed the preset settings for capturing or for burning so treat me like a 5 year old ok?
Please, Please can someone tell me what to do? I’m not asking for much, just a decent quality DVD.I used to spend my time wondering, now it’s all used up rendering.

Hi lain,
The movies you get in your computer are 100% the same you have in our camera. No transcoding, no re-compression.
If you want to make your DV footage look better:
-Drop it in a sequence with a 422 codec (DVCPro50, Apple 8/10b Unc, PhotoJPEG 75%,..)
– Make a bit of Color Correction.
– Before exporting apply a “Chroma Smoothing/Sharpening” filter. FC used to have a 411/422 Chroma Smooth filter, but is not there any more. Adam Wilt have a free one (only for 411 footage) here: https://www.adamwilt.com/SteppyEdges.html
If you are in PAL land, you need to get the Nattress “Chroma Smooth/Sharpen”. Works incredible. If you are applying others filters, this one have to be set the first in the stack. Although I apply it in the last moment, otherwise no RT preview.
