  • Capture setting question (24p with DV NTSC

Posted by Nelson May on July 17, 2006 at 9:34 pm

Upon capture of DV tape I found I had in the audio video settings….sequence preset DV NTSC 48khz -24, capture preset DV NTSC 48khz, and device control Firewire NTSC. Here is what was happening. On a 100B after I burned a DVD the 100B footage had a jumpy and jerky look to and panning or large movement. But I had some footage form a Panasonic GS 120 wide angle that apperared to be fine. I assumed it was the DV NTSC 48khz that was causing a frame shift to something in the 24p range when I edited.

I went back and set everything to standard DV NTSC 48khz and started to capture on the 100B and then will capture from the GS 120. Will my final edit look much smoother, beacause I don’t have the sequence preset on 24p when I am capturing footage shot at DV NTSC?

I know this is a complex questions, but I have had the problem of jumpy frames before, and I am wondering if I accidentally set the sequence preset to 24. would this cause it?

If I am not clear with my question please ask me to clarify.

    Thanks,

First off… what frame rate did you record to tape in?

I recoreded in 60i, but I did find that if you have the preset sequence other than that format you recorded in, you are goingto have trouble. I reset the preset to DV NTSC and captured from a 100B in both my G4 and G5, burned the footage to DVD and I see video that is clear as day. No ghost images. I assume if you have the wrong sequence preset anything that is dropped on the timeline will be made to conform to that preset. Thus, my 60i, was trying to become 24 giving me the jittert frames. I am just out of film school and I just learned a lot
