Capture quandary
If I recall correctly, one of the early versions of iMovie would separate all the recorded clips from the tape real as it captured footage to the hard drive. Is that an accurate recollection?
As I am now using P2, I am falling in love with this capability. There is no need to separate clips in the logging window! All I must now do is re-label and delete unnecessary footage. The problem is that I can’t afford to run sole P2 and must also use tape. Does FCP have the capability to find the clip cuts from the camera? Is it a setting I am missing on the camera?
I am running OSX 10.5.7, FCP 6.0.6, shooting HVX200P.
This would make the front end of post production a very happy place. -

If I understand you properly, you want to have P2 clips in a separate place from clips captured from tape. What I’d do is create 2 bins in the project browser – one for P2 and one for tape. Then, select which one you want and “Set Logging Bin” to it and capture or transfer. Do the same for the other bin.

If capturing dv over firewire, you can use Mark > DV Start/Stop Detect. Only works over firewire.
Otherwise, you log and capture.
