    Hey Guys,

I edit on Vegas 6 and so far, I have had very few problems. This morning I went to capture some footage that I shot yesterday, and was unsuccessful. The camera is connected via firewire and the computer recognizes that the camera is there. I can fastforward and rewind from the computer and everything seems fine. The problem is that went I go to capture the video, there is no picture or audio in the preview window. When it starts to play, it just turns to a black screen, and therefore doesn’t capture anything.

I’ve never had this problem before so any help will be appreciated.

Also, I restarted my computer and the problem is still there. I have about 5 hard drives connected to this machine; Two are internal and three are external. I’m trying to capture to one of the external ones (it has about 90GB left on it).

The problem may be with my C:. It’s an 18GB hard drive, but it only has about 9GB left on it. I never save anything to this hard drive, but it’s still filling up. Does anyone know if Vegas, by default, automatically saves files to the C:?

    Thanks!

Yes it does. Upon first starting Vegas, I always recommend going to File – Properties, changing the folder there (and any other options as desired), and click the box to “apply to all new projects”. You may need to change existing projects if you open them later.

Then go to Options – Preferences and change the folders there as well. Then you can get all the “default” folders off the “C” drive.

Thanks, I’ll try that, but just in case that doesn’t work…does anybody else have any ides or has this happened to anyone else before?

Well… by default the capture app will also go to the “C” drive. You need to change that as well if you have not done so.

There is a preference settings in the capture program that can be set to always preview, auto, or never preview.
You may have accidentally ticked it to never preview.
I believe it is under prefrences. By the way, with it set to never preview it will still capture your footage, you just can’t see it while it is being captured.

    Hey guys,

Thanks for the comments. I went to File and Preferences and reassigned the prerendered files. At first it still was working and then after a few minutes of frustration, I turned my camera off and on and that did the trick.

Maybe it was a combination of things, but at least it’s working now. Thanks!
