Don’t know if anyone can help me with a Final Cut Express HD question, but I’m going a little crazy. Just installed FCE HD and I suddenly can’t recognize my Canon attached. It worked the other day no problems. Good old imovie recognizes the camera on the same computer, so I know its Final Cut. Final Cut Pro never has had this problem, but I have that loaded at the office a good distance away. Anyways, I trashed my user prefs for fce to no avail. FCE 1.0.1 doesn’t recognize my camera either after trashing its prefs as well. Tried repairing permissions, No luck. Going crazy. Anybody have a clue what might be happening? I’m running 10.3.9 on a Powerbook 667. DV-NTSC selected in setup; very basic firewire setting, but doesn’t work. Tried other settings for the heck of it, to no avail. Everything was fine two weeks ago, and I suspect its 10.3.9. Its the only change I have made to my computer in the last couple of weeks.

Do you have other firewire devices to try (deck or other cameras)? Do you have an external hard drive with a different operating system? Start up from that, see how it effects things. Didn’t you install FCE 1.0.1 before or after FCE HD? Is this FCE 2 or the more recent FCE HD? Why not just load FCP on the laptop? If it’s working at the office, it should work on your laptop. Hopefully some of these suggestions might jog something.

I tried a sony that also should work under FCE 3 (supported) but does not. Again imovie recognized the camera and captured. FCE 1.0.1 was installed before FCE 3. I upgraded to FCE 3. I haven’t had luck booting my external firewire with an OS installed. I’ll leave that for another day.

Both Sony and Canon camcorder did capture in FCE 1.0.1 on an older G4 500 running 10.3.2 confirming my suspicion that OS 10.3.9 on my laptop is “buggy”. I’ll have to install FCE 3 on older mac to confirm this. As for installing FCPro on my laptop, I can give that a try. I don’t have it installed on my laptop as it is not registered to me, but the company I work for.

I had the same problem some time ago but It returned to normal after I deleted my user prefs. But if you already deleted them I dunno what else could be… sorry
