I have a problem capturing one tape. It contains a music event and I think the sound was totally blown out. The capture device shows that it is capturing but when I stop, the screen shows ‘no video captured’. Could it be due to bad sound causing too many dropouts, (my guess at this point). How can I solve this?? Anyone help me please.
    Thanks, Tom

What camera are you using? If it’s a DV with firewire, try windows movie maker to capture the video. All capture programs capture both audio and video as far as I know but you can just turn down that audio track and add your own audio. Danny

thanks Danny, I have tried this on a Sony VX 1000 and a
Sony FX 1, same results. I captured with Windows movie maker, but couldn’t find the file when I went back to Vegas. Is the quality OK with movie maker?? In Adobe Premier I used to be able to capture either/or. Thanks so much for taking the time with me. Tom

Tom, have you tried hooking a camera to a TV to see if the tape plays OK?

    Heelo Mike,
Yes, when I was with my client choosing the spots we wanted. At that time, I heard sound distortions and I hoped I could straighten them up. I also have a backup recording that I could dub in. Does it sound possible that my assumption is correct, that the sound problem is preventing it to capture??? I ran a copy tape and tried that to no avail.

Tom, not saying it’s not possible but I’ve personally never heard of blown-out audio messing up a tape for capture purposes.
If your capture method is to hit the “Capture Tape” button, try playing the tape until you see clean stable video and then press “Capture Video”.
It’s possible that there’s something (tape crease, dropout?) at the very start of the tape that’s messing with the capture.
    Good luck with it.
