capture offset?

Capture offsets may be different with each VTR you use, so it’s best to experiment to find the one that works with your deck.

Capture offset needs to be calibrated for every deck. Even if you have two decks which are the same model, they might have different capture offsets and this is due to small mechanical differences between decks. If you ever update the firmware in your deck, you should recalibrate the offset.
To do so, peform a batch capture of video with burnt in timecode. Then compare the burnt in time code of the first and last frames of each captured clip with the In and Out points you had specified for the clip. If you find that all captured clips are out by the same amount, eg 2 frames, then change the capture preset accordingly. If they are all exactly as they should be, then you do not need to change the capture preset. If you find that most are OK but a few are off, try increasing the pre-roll setting by a second or 2 so that the tape mechanism will have stabilized by the time each capture starts.
