I have a Mac G5 quad machine that I have hooked up to capture footage from my Panasonic AG-DV2500 deck, and I set up an external firewire drive as the capture scratch drive. There is plenty of room on the drive. I am trying to digitize some mini-DV footage. I have done this successfully with my deck many times before today.

I cannot seem to be able to capture any footage today.

If I set in/out points, I get a “locating timecode break”. If I use “Capture Now”, it records for a couple seconds, and then gives me the same message. The camera was not stopped at all during the places there is a report of timecode breaks.

I have trashed my preferences, and my capture settings are Firewire NTSC basic for the device control, and DV NTSC 48khz is my capture/input setting. Any thoughts?

You may have a glitch on your tape. Have you been able to scroll through the problem area frame by frame?

If there is a glitch on the tape you may be able to get around it by:

    1. in user preferences uncheck Abort capture on dropped frames. This will give you a visual problem if the video/audio can’t be covered in post over the dropped frame. You may also have a problem mastering.

    2. in audio video settings set your device control preset to Non-Controllable Device and record by manually pressing play on the deck and then clicking Capture now in FCP. You won’t be able to recapture correctly but you can capture now.\

    good luck

    Sharon,

Disconnect your deck and quit FCP. Then connect the deck, and then fire up FCP. It should see the deck and you should be good.

    Have a wonderful day.
