I have a cannon HV20 and I am having difficulty capturing on my 64-bit windows 7 computer in either 8.0 or 8.1.

Interestingly it actually works with the same camera on my 32 bit computer (XP).

It says Video Preview unavailable, but all of the capture buttons appear as normal. When I hit the record button the it controls the camera and the tape plays, however it says “capturing xxxx.m2t 0MB, 0 dropped”. It creates a temporary file in the capture directory, but when it’s done this file disappears and it did not capture anything. Can anyone help?

    Thanks

Vegas Pro 8.1 does not “officially” support Windows 7. Vegas Pro 8.1 is also back-leveled code based on Vegas Pro 8.0B instead of the latest 8.0C. In short, I would not use 8.1 for any serious production work. You really need to upgrade to Vegas Pro 9.0 if you plan on working in 64-bit on Windows 7.

I would download the trial of Vegas Pro 9.0 are try to capture with that. if it works, you have your answer. (i.e., it’s a bug in 8.1 that will never be fixed) If Vegas Pro 9.0 has the same problem, then perhaps someone can help you understand what’s going wrong.

BTW, you could always capture with the 32-bit version of Vegas Pro 8.0c and edit with Vegas Pro 8.1 as an alternative solution but 8.0 is not supported on Windows 7 either so you won’t get any support from Sony.

I have 8.0c on my computer also I’m similarly getting an error. It says loading device and then it looks normal but once you hit the record button nothing really happens (it seems like it’s recording and the tape moves but it does not actually capture anything). I looked at the device it is recognizing that I have a HV20 correctly.
I also tried it in XP SP3 capatiability mode.

Then I downloaded HVSplit to capture which failed after a couple of seconds and said “INFO: No more data is received from camcoder. Capture stopped.”

Any other ideas on how I can capture my video(besides upgrading)?

    Thanks
