Capture in low resolution

Sorry but no – and I can’t think of any reason I’d do it either.

The only workaround is to render out a low res version of each clip using the exact same file names as in the original.
Do your “off-line” edit with these.
When you’re ready to do the “on-line” version, delete the low res files and then load the veg file. Vegas will say something like “can’t find filexxx.avi – what do you want to do?” Point it to the folder where the original files are and it should automatically pick up from there, replacing all the files.

No. What is your source format?

With computer speed and hard drive capacity and prices what they are these days, off line editing is an obsolete concept unless you are working with formats with very high capacity or throughput requirements.

The reason I asked is because I am working in a friend’s project and he uses FCP that allows to capture in low res. He is doing that because he has shot a documentary with more than 100 hours. In low res he could capture everything. At the end, he will make a edl and send the original tapes to a finishing house that will not only make the tape-to-tape but also tranfer it to 35.
