Capture in AVID and edit in FCP-How, easy way?
Here is my task:
I got Digibeta tape, (PAL-I am in Europe) where on the sticker it says 625/50. it is a 72 minutes documentary.
I need to edit this in FCP 6 and make PAL and NTSC DVDs.
I have a posibility to capture it on AVID sets on the PC with Unity network.
Idealy I would like to bring my external HardDisc and capture it right there, and take my disc back home to my Mac and FCP6 (FCP Studio2).
Is this possible, and what would be my capture settings in Avid? I want best possible quality.thanx a lot

Since timecode is not really an issue if you have only one tape, ingest uncompressed (8 or 10 bit), export a QT reference and take that, together with the Avid Mediafiles or OMFI mediafiles folder to the mac.
The QT ref should import in FCP just fine. After that, set the correct TC / reel (if needed) and edit away.Make sure you also capture the bars, and export a QT ref twice, once with RGB levels, once with 601 levels, and decide in FCP what is the best to use.

You can export quicktimes and then when you go to make both NTSC discs and PAL discs, it’s just a matter of starting a new project in FCP and letting it convert upon import for you.
I was doing this at a PGA event last weekend. Other than huge clunky files, it worked fine.
I have not tried the QT ref with the OMFI file trick but if you creat new folders for those, you’ll be able to find em and utilize em quicker than waiting on big exports.
