    Hi,
I’m trying to capture from a microphone into a Decklink4kExtreme. Little trickier than I expected. Hopefully someone here can sort this out.

Mic is a Shure SM7B going into a Cloudlifter pre-amp. If we plug this into a zoom recorder it sounds fantastic.

Trying to plug it into the Decklink audio input set to Analog gave us nothing. We plugged in a BM Pocket Camera via HDMI and the audio came through. Is it possible to capture audio without a video input? If not, will the Mini Converter Sync Generator give us what we need to remove the BM camera from the mix?

I could not get a signal with the mic to going straight into the decklink and had to patch it through a mixer. Unfortunately we’re getting reverb going this route… I’m sure I can sort this out with a little time, but the Cloudlifter does such a clean gain going into the Zoom recorder that I’d prefer not going through the mixer. I assume this is an impedance matching issue? I used to have a Matchbox on my flame to deal with this… https://www.henryeng.com/matchbox.html. Would this help with Decklink?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

And if Grant/Matt are still monitoring this board, it’s been way too long. Miss you guys =).

No. The Decklink (nor any other Blackmagic card) will not capture audio-only. There must always be a video signal present to work.

Thx… so will the Mini Converter Sync Generator give me what I need for the video signal?

Feed the black to the video input. If ref in is needed feed black to that, too. That should work. But, try it and find out for sure.

A sync signal is just an analog composite video signal, typically with the video all black. You would have to plug it into the analog composite input of the card, but it should work.

Thanks for the info. The BM Sync generator did the trick.

No need for the Matchbox. Mixing board is now set up properly.

And I can capture wav files without video in Audition.

    Happy camper.
