Capture from Jvc GR-dvl505
I’ve got a bit of a problem, with a newly acquired Jvc dvl505, which is, I’m having trouble capturing video from the tape onto my pc. I purchased a firewire pci card specifically for this camera, and it installed successfully onto my xp pc. However, the computer will not recognize that the camera is connected. It won’t capture to any of my video editors. At first I thought it was a bad cable, but a new cable didn’t fix it. Anyone familiar with this model? Is it even capable of a firewire capture, or is that port just for show?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You will need something like this:

Thanks for the help! yeah, After reading your post, I tried starting the computer with the cable already plugged in, but I still couldn’t capture with any of my programs. In that case, I’ll just have to buy that cable you suggested. I guess that’s what I get for buying the firewire cable+card without thoroughly researching it. Btw, I got the camera at a garage sale. 🙂

Oh, one other thing. I don’t suppose that such a cable might be able to capture directly to my video editor? That is, whether the editor (ulead video studio 11) would be recognize the camera?

It has not arrived in the mail yet, though I have a feeling this will work. I am using the 8mm-RCA AV out jack.
