This work flow has worked well for me.

DVR Analog out > Camcorder with pass thru > Firewire into PC.

Vegas will capture as DV-AVI files. Hard drive space needed is approx 14GB per hour of footage.
Just make sure to turn off device control in preferences.

On my wish list is to replace my Sony Digital8 cam with a Canopus ADVC-300. I hear it has a TBC. Does anyone know that for sure.

Tyson, Chuck has the right idea.
Capturing to MPEG-2 is never a good idea as it’s already a compressed format.
AVI will keep the quality level as high as possible and be much easier to edit.

Chuck, yes, the ADVC-300 has a TBC and a lot more.
It’s definitely a great (albeit expensive) box for this purpose.
