I finally got a firewire Sony DV Tape Deck. I hooked it up and attempted to capture with Vegas Video 7. I had no luck at all it said “Device Not Available”.
As an alternative method and just as an experiment I opened Windows Movie Maker. It immediately recognized the DV Deck, and I was able to capture just fine with it.

    Any ideas?

I searched the Sony Vegas forum and went through the manual and the only thing I can suggest is to make sure the DV EE OUT on the VTR SET menu is OFF.

Now that you brought it up, I found where to look for it. The check box was unchecked. Many times it is the simple things we overlook.
The deck is out on another job today, so it will be tomorrow before I can check that out, to see if it worked.

Thank you guys for your help.

    Ed,
It was the check box for external capture program. There seems to always be a check box that I didn’t find. It is capturing jugs fine now.

Thank you, Ed, you always seem to come through for me.
Sorry I didn’t get to see you at NAB this year.

    Glad you got it working.

I was sorry I missed you as well. I wasn’t there long, though.
