  • Capture device/card recommendation?

I’m getting bleary-eyed reading all the specs and reviews of the different
    capture solutions
for FCP. I need some clear-headed advice that fits my workflow.

I’m on a quad core Intel Mac running the latest version of FCP.

I shoot and edit XDCAM-HD most of the time, but occasionally I have archival or
    b-roll
material on Beta SP, DVCAM, and sometimes, HDV.

I don’t need a capture card for the XDCAM-HD, but I want HD monitoring (SDI and
possibly HDMI) and I want to replace my old AJA IO as my capture device at the
    same time.

I was leaning toward the IO-HD, but read a review in Studio Daily that
    concentrated on its
limitations… especially with native XDCAM-HD editing.

AJA has great service, but no HDMI on the Kona cards. How about the upcoming
    Matrox
    MX02?

    Thanks for any advice.

A quick search would find an almost identical thread from yesterday … Anyhoo,to recap, the MXO2 is not yet shipping. If you are in no hurry to sate this need then you may want to wait it out for and see if it lives up to expectations plus irons out any initial kinks and quirks. If its all good then it sounds ideal for your needs … but time is money eh? As it stands, wouldn’t the MXO(1) complement your existing AJA IO perfectly well, and provide pretty much all of the needs you outline? You originally state “possibly” HDMI but later un the post it seems like that may be the deciding factor? If not, I’d go with the MXO now and upgrade to the MXO2 if and when its good and ready and my needs really start to require it.
