    Heyo,

I originally posted this in the broadcasting forum, THEN found this one.

I’m editing a church program that is shot with old Ikegami SD studio cameras and switched using a Blackmagic ATEM switcher. We’re using AJA’s VTR Xchange to capture from program on a Mini Mac running OS 10.7.5 and using Apple ProRes 422 compression. Currently, a 2 hour service runs around 40GB. We’ve got a 32TB RAiD server for storage.

My question is, is there a compression that would create smaller file sizes without a noticeable difference in quality once it’s broadcast on TV? I’m editing in Premiere Pro CS5.5, so I can work natively with whatever compression I choose.

We’ll be transitioning to HD eventually and file size vs. storage capacity at that point will have to be re-examined. I just want to make sure I’m not wasting drive space on unnecessarily large captures.

    Thanks.
