I am in the process of upgrading to a new editing system and have been wondering about investing in a capture card. I am a bit confused about the exact use of this hardware though. Can someone explain the benefits of using one in a Final Cut system?

    Thanks!

If you have a need to ingest footage from a source other than DV or at a higher quality, you’ll want a capture card. For example, if you wanted to do uncompressed SD for broadcast, you’d want a Blackmagic or Kona card that will give you SDI inputs. Some have degrees of Hardware Acceleration features, but they are principally I/O devices.
