We have been using Canopus ADVC100 converters to get analog source footage into our G5 dual 867s, but have been having trouble with them lately (probably due largely to it being transported and used in various locations). I’m looking for a more solid (ie permanent) solution such as an internal capture card and was curious what my best options were.

We only do standard definition, usually a live source or possibly VHS or S-VHS footage. Any standard stereo audio option would work (RCA, XLR) as we’re using a mixing console for our source audio anyway.

I’m looking for a price range around $500-1000, if possible.

    Thanks.

I know there are a ton of threads on this subject, but many have suggested the Black Magic Decklink cards, maybe the Decklink Extreme. The AJA I/O would probably be an option but it’s outside the price range unless you go with an option with less inputs.

Check out the io LA. it will have all of the analog ins and outs, plus it will remain portable and more stable than your canopus. the price is just over $1000. It is an outboard capture device tethered to the computer by a single firewire cord. This allows for you to take it on the road with you or across the room to another computer. They also have a control panel that allows you to access a proc amp for all of your VHS captures. Pretty swett little box and well worth the money. Good luck in your purchasing decisions.
