    Hi Everyone,

I am in the process of building out a proposal to bring all of our usually outsourced post in-house. Here is my question:

Is it wise to get a capture card if we don’t plan on purchasing any decks for ingestion or output? Basically, we have a local vendor who will be able to transcode prores files for us from whatever the source media is (film, digital, etc). At the back end, we will have this same vendor conform and go about color correct for us as well.

    Thanks, everyone!

Then no, you don’t. If you won’t be doing the capturing or output or color correction, then you don’t need a capture card. If you want to play the footage full screen, you can use one of the computer monitors to do that.

We have 8 editing stations here…3 have capture cards. The two assistant (INGEST) stations, and my online (COLOR CORRECT AND OUTPUT) station. The rest are fine without.
