I have a G4 running FCP 4.5 that we plan to keep alive as a basic graphics and digitizing station. However, it doesn’t have a capture card. I would like something that could capture component in from our Beta deck, and SDI in from out Sony DSR2000 DVCAM. For this station it obviously doesn’t have to be anywhere near highend HD-ready. Can anyone sugest the AJA or Blackmagic cards we should be looking at? Thanks.

Better yet, look at the AJA Io series. It’s an external box that connects via Firewire, but you can capture / edit / output uncompressed footage. Best part is that when you get to the point of upgrading your system later, the Io will still work unlike any capture card you would purchase today.

    Io comes in three flavors:
Io which has analog and SDI I/O
Io LA which only has analog I/O
Io SD which only has digital I/O

Would hate for you to spend money on a capture card that won’t stay with you when you upgrade. The Io will continue to work no matter what Mac you upgrade to later and also works with laptops.
