    Hi,
I’m normally a FCP user however I’ve been offered some education work where the system is Premier, so it’s all new to me.
    I’m running 4.2.1 on a Mac with OSX.4.11

My first problem is that Premier doesn’t recognise my Sony V1P (or V1U in the States) so I can’t capture any of my footage.
I get the ‘Can’t activate recorder’ message.
Having trawled the forums I’ve tried a number of things including attempting to change the capture settings to HDV but I can’t even do that. When I click on the ‘video’ button in the ‘Capture Settings’ window, nothing happens. I assume I’m supposed to be offered some options when I press this? Is that right?

So I’ve attempted a workaround by capturing in FCP (in ‘Apple Pro Res’ codec) then just importing the clips from there.
Premier seems to handle this OK but I tried a test export (my final output will be DVD) but nothing happens. I get the ‘Exporting Data’ progress bar but then nothing happens. I thought the Media Encoder was supposed to open.
When I open the Media Encoder manually I can see my Data but the Status reveals an Encoding Error Log with the message: ‘Could not read from the source. Please check if it has moved or been deleted.’ And the Source File location says it’s in ‘Temporary Items’. So the problem lies in here somewhere but having trawled the forums on this problem it seems even larger than my first issue…

So I’ve now returned to the capture issue hoping that that is easier to solve. Anyone? Thoughts or help would be much appreciated.

Inide your capture panel, go to settings >Edit and see if you can change your capture setting to HDV there.

On your second issue, try updating Premiere to the latest version, but if you can capture with Premiere, that would be best.

    Hi Vince,

    Thanks for your response.
I have also tried that but I get the same (non) response.

    I will try and update.
In the mean time any other thoughts?
Has anyone out there used the V1U with CS4?
