ya, i got that far, but it tells me
“capture preset must have a video or audio digitalizer set to capture. Please change to desired preset in the Audio/Video settings”

i captured uncompressed not long ago, but now it gives me this?

Have you set the appropriate settings in the AJA Control Panel first?

sequence preset : uncompressed 8-bit ntsc 48 khz
capture preset : generic cap templ.
    device control : non-controllable

    those are right arent they?

No…not one of those is right.

Sequence Preset: AJA Kona LH-NTSC 8-bit Uncompressed.
Capture Preset: AJA Kona LH-NTSC 8-bit Uncompressed.
    Device Control: HDV Firewire.

If you cannot control the device via firewire, then you might have to go uncontrolled device. Just know that you will be lacking timecode of any usable kind, so if you lose the media, you are hosed.
