    Hey all..

I usually try to troubleshoot myself because I’m stubborn and hate bothering people for help but I am having such difficulty with this that I have to ask.

Ok so I’m trying to make a music video I shot broadcast ready for MTV. The digital delivery service they use (DMDS) has a lot of requirements which I’ve met except for 2.

First, they want the video to be 29.97 Dropframe..I went to the Rulers part of the properties and switched it to 29.97 Drop, the time code gave me the semi colon (which iv be told is the sign that something is drop frame)..rendered it, sent it in..they still keep insisted its non drop. I’ve tried everything..even rendering in different software where I can choose the drop option and they still say its non drop. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? I feel like im taking crazy pills because I KNOW I change it to drop before every render.

Second, Closed captioning. Im using vegas 10 which supports captioning, I followed a tutorial, synced up all the captions..everything seemed to be all good..sent it in and they said “the captioning is on Line 3, it needs to be on Line 1” ..i set the captions on the Primary CC1 line..is there something else I need to do?

Iv rendered and sent in this video at least 6 times (6 hour upload time each) I’m wasting a lot of time with this and would like to move on. The people over at DMDS aren’t that familiar with Vegas so they aren’t much help to me.

any help you can give me I will greatly appreciate. thank you.

[Adam Ross] “Im using vegas 10 which supports captioning”

Make sure that you are using 10.0e because previous versions had bugs in the captioning logic that causes errors when output.

[Adam Ross] “they said “the captioning is on Line 3, it needs to be on Line 1″ ..i set the captions on the Primary CC1 line..is there something else I need to do?”

I’m not sure what they are referring to. Vegas produces CEA608 Line 21 captions which support 16 lines (0 – 15) and the first line is always written to line 15 (the bottom line). As more lines are needed, Vegas uses line 14 next then line 13 etc.

Line 1 would be at the top of the screen and if they think line 15 is really line 3 then you need to tell them that you are sending CEA608 captions and ask them what caption format they were expecting.

Thank you for the reply. This has been extremely frustrating. I’m actually using 10a so I will upgrade immediately.

as far as the captioning, the line stuff is al Japanese to me. Are my settings correct as far as putting it on 608CC1 and what not? Do you think it messed up because of the bug in the earlier versions of vegas?

    thanks again.

Does anyone have any idea about the drop/non drop issue? that is the most frustrating because I know im setting it on drop and they just keep telling me its not.

Yes, 608CC1 is the correct one to use for primary captions.

[Adam Ross] “Do you think it messed up because of the bug in the earlier versions of vegas?”

That certainly is possible. 10.0a was four (4) release ago. That’s a lot of bug fixes.

There was a bug on the captioning file not being created correctly. I would wait until you have 10.0e and see if it still persists. Just make sure that your timeline is set to the correct Drop/Non-Drop setting before you render.

Well… 10.0a to 10.0e is quite a jump. Even though it lets you upgrade in place, I would completely uninstall and re-install. Also, sometimes Vegas gets hung in memory. I would use the Task manager to make sure that Vegas is not in memory (re-boot if you have to), then uninstall and re-install. This might help.

I was really looking forward to a “happy ending” to this thread. I’m having the same EXACT issue. When I upload my video to DMDS, I get a red flag saying it isn’t drop frame when I know for a fact I selected drop.
I will check my version of Vegas 10? when I get home but can you tell me how to exactly set it to drop?

    Thanks.

PS I wish there was an archive of Sony Vegas user posts that submit videos via DMDS and the troubleshooting of the various issues. I just starting using DMDS and I’d hate to start asking old questions that have been resolved.
