I finally uploaded the new version of X-Title Caption Export I announced two or three weeks ago.
It contains some bug fixes and some new features. The most obvious new one is the option to create html code for WebVTT use.
So it’s easy to embed some subtitled movie into your personal website or to test code for Vimeo etc.
If you use Vimeo let me know how it works or if you need more enhancements.
There is a new help PDF available:
    https://www.spherico.com/filmtools/TitleExchange/XTCE/XTCE_Quick_Start.pdf
    The app is available here:
    https://www.spherico.com/filmtools/TitleExchange/XTCE/XTCE.dmg

88 caption per language role are free ????

This finally allows to test WebVTT and CEA-608 to CEA-708 behaviour – latter if you replace the movie source in the html code.

Some further notes on the above.
Last weekend we discussed the behaviour of SCC/CEA subtitled movies in different players.
One player we tried was the standard Web5 player which works in all modern browsers.
While WebVTT should be CEA-708 compatible and CEA-708 was developed WebVTT in mind the results look very different from Desktop QT Player X and WebVTT.
There is a little project with CEA captions in FCP you can download and play with.

The webpage created with Caption Extract is
    https://www.spherico.com/filmtools/TitleExchange/XTCE/sampleProject/myMovie
A future version of X-Title Caption Extract will have a better “bounding box control” – currently 10% horz, 5% vert fixed.

You can play with the project, QT Player X and Caption Export to get a clearer picture about digital players 😉

I’d like to just make the point that if you’re not using Andreas’ extensive suite of tools as the mainstay of your captioning/subtitling needs, you’re missing out on the best solutions available anywhere.

Literally no-one understands this stuff better than he does.

Is there an app that can test CEA-608 files?
My experience has always been “send to broadcaster” and so far no one has got back to me if it works or not.
Now I am faced with a project that is supposed to be sent to a broadcaster but I would like to see it for myself in a viewer.

    MacCaption is the only reliable.

I downloaded MacCaption but not sure if that’s what I’m looking for.
Is there a way to playback a movie clip with an embedded code?
I want to test this CEA-608 project.
Just want to make sure it works.
In the past, I would just send the embedded file to a broadcaster but of late I’ve been curious.

You need to have the right hardware
Otherwise for simple test you can always use QT player or a simple HTML5 webpage.

Yea I ended uploading it to YouTube for testing.
