  • Caps Disappear When Make Extrude Object Connected

So i have an illustrator file brought into c4d (its pretty intense with the splines (around 300 of them), so i drop them in an extrude nurb, heirarchal, boom, it’s all extruded, looking good. I now want to be able to connect them all, clean them up, so it’s not so complex, so I make all of the extruded splines editable, and chose connect…and voila…

They’re connected, but only the outline. The object shows up as “Path 1”. The caps disappeared for some reason when I did the connect command and when I try to close polygon holes, they don’t close right..there is some overlap when I connect some of the shapes and all in all just is a pain in the butt right now. Is there something I’m missing when turning the complex extrude nurb object to just 1 object?

In Illustrator if you want to make a shape with a hole in it (an ‘A’ or an ‘O’ for example) you have to join them into a compound path so that it knows to make a hole in the fill with the next spline in. C4D uses Connecting splines together to do the same thing, so since you have 300+ splines all in the same Connect – some closed, some open, some enclosing others but not for a purpose like in an ‘O’…. yeah it would be pretty nuts alright.
