Ok. there is probably a simple answer to this question but I’m nt sure if I know it. In a current project I am seeing in the canvas window that some clips appear to have a sliver of vertical black on left and right side, while others fit the canvas entirely. The window is set to “Fit All” and the sequence settings are, I believe, correctly set to NTSC 4:3. All AV settings are also set to NTSC. I don’t believe I’ve changed any settings recently so this has me puzzled since it seems like something new (and unwanted). Any suggestions much appreciated. P.s – I find this board most helpful.

Are the clips that are showing the black on either side from analog video sources? If so, that’s normal, it’s called blanking… it won’t show up on a TV set because they are out of the safe area. If the delivery is to be something like a web stream though, they will show up, and the common fix is to crop the finished product so they don’t show up.

Even some digi cameras do this too. My JVC GY600. I understand it was designed to work with analogue equipment and produces 704×576 output compared with the 720×576 pal standard.
