Canvas Size
Posted by Michael Brodner on September 10, 2007 at 5:16 pmDoes anyone know how or why my final comp in the right window is a 4:3 aspect ratio while my raw footage on the left is widescreen? I cant seem to find anywhere in the preferences where I can change my canvas size to 16:9. Is there a way to change this? Thanks

September 10, 2007 at 5:42 pmYou don’t have your sequence set up right. Your sequence settings need to match your clip settings.
What type of footage are you using? What camera was it shot on?

September 10, 2007 at 5:51 pmI shot this with a Sony HDR FX1. I did NOT shoot HD. I shot this in in the DV format. will all the editing ive already done have to be redone?

September 10, 2007 at 6:17 pmOpen a new sequence and change the “sequence settings” preset to DV NTSC 48khz Anamorphic. Now, copy and paste eveything from your existing timeline into that timeline and report the results back herte.

September 10, 2007 at 8:00 pmOk i did everything u said but now the footage is stretched and the black bars are still there. I could manually go through and scale the footage to the proper size but it would be a major pain. thoughts?

September 10, 2007 at 8:24 pmThis why I suggested you report back…
The problem is, because you were editing with incorrect settings we’ve now go to figure out how to get you back to “reality.”
First, let’s see what you’re actually editing. Look at a video clip in the FCP browser look down the row to the right and please tell me what it says under frame size & compressor.

September 10, 2007 at 9:01 pmIn the browser it says for frame size, “720×480” and then for compressor it says, “DV/DVCPRO-NT”

September 10, 2007 at 9:10 pmOkay, in the new timeline where you cut and pasted all the stuff before and you said it was stretched, highlight every clip, and then right click and choose remove attributes, then select distort and choose okay. Now report back…
