December 15, 2006 at 12:37 pmMy first urge is to say whatever problems you are having are a result of an unqualified machine.
Avid tends to be very picky about the hardware. It may seem like old technology, but an HP8400 is the latest/greatest. If you are a tech-head, then you might be able to get it to work. I’m not, so I can’t suggest spending money on an expensive video card that may or may not fix your problem.
If you are making money with this system, I’d say save your dual-core machine for Doom, and get a system qualified by Avid. You can find the requirements at https://www.avid.com/products/xpresspro/specs.asp#pc

December 18, 2006 at 12:08 amUsually that kind of problem is due the graphic card. If you are using the graphics directly from the mother board, I’m almost sure is the problem. You can buy one of the AVID certified cards of course, but there are also other cards that work just fine and for less money.
I am using an ATI fire gl v3100 and it does the job, BUT it doesn’t mean it will work with any motherboard.
Solution? Borrow a card from a friend and test it!
