I have a 2 hr feature that is broken into individual scenes only. I need to render the whole movie together to get it on DVD. It was suggested that I import each scene “nested” into a new project timeline then just render them all into one movie. I started to import each scene and line them all up on the timeline in there correct order. It was going great UNTIL I had about half the movie on there. That’s when it all fell apart. Basically everything just freezes up and I can’t import the rest of the movie. I read on the forum to lower my preview RAM and “number of threads”, which I did, but that didn’t help much. What should I do? I have a hefty, dual core computer.

I can break the movie up into 2 or 3 “parts” without a problem and “link” them together in Architect but the final DVD will just jerk as it plays through each part. Help would be greatly appreciated!

After more research I’m learning that others are having this same problem and it seems that I may need some critical Vista updates having to do with the way Vista handles RAM usage. Still though…if anyone has any thoughts I’d like to hear them. Thanks!

Here’s two things to try, both of which I’ve done successfully when nested files failed to work for me.

#1. If your project is SD, render each section to DV-AVI using Best mode.
Then combine the rendered AVI files into a new instance of Vegas and render for DVD.

    #2. Open scene #1.
Start a new instance of Vegas.
Copy scene #1 and paste it into the new instance.
Close scene #1 and open scene #2.
Copy scene #2 and paste it into the new instance.
Repeat until all scenes are copied over.
    Render to DVD.

Remember to save the new instance after each copy/paste.

I’ve found that the problem with copy/pasting scenes is that I lose all my FX when I do that. Some scenes I’m done working on have a dozen tracks or more with both audio and video effects applied. Am I missing something with copy/pasting?

The project is HD not SD.

I researched more and found that it’s necessary to have the Service Pack 1 upgrade for Vista which my editing computer doesn’t have. Once I get that installed today hopefully my machine will stop freezing up and giving me “low memory” errors.
