  • Can’t render AE – Render queue does nothing

    Hi,

    Render problem here.

My movie won’t render when i add it to render queue.
I have an animation, i add it to the Render Queue, select some settings and hit the render button.
Every time i try this i see a popup saying ‘Saving project’ and a growing statusbar for 2 seconds appears. Then the popup disappears and also the selected “V” for queue in the list also disappears. Nothing gets rendered.
Export movie works fine, saving ram preview also works.

What could this be? My thinking it’s a settings problem, but i’ve tried some different settings without succes.
    Where should i look?

    RENDER SETTINGS

Include: Proj Link & source XMP metadata
    Output Audio: Off
    Post render action: None
    Then some channel settings.

Feels like this is something basic, but can’t figure it out.
Hope you can help me out. I would appreciate it very much.

try disabling multiprocessing and see if it renders….

when ae uses multiprocessing it has to save a temporary version of your project that it can ‘serve’ out to the other cpus for render. it seems like it is having a problem saving the temp file, so disabling mp may get it to render.

    Hello Kevin,

    Thanks for your answer.

Multiprocessing was off. I tried it again to be sure.

Could it be some other preference setting? Like:
    – ‘Disk cache enabling’ (it’s on: size 50000 -on a MP Quad, 16GbRam, AtiRadeon 4870, and plenty space)
    – Conformed Media cache: it is on a different disk than my bootdrive and software storage (…/AppSupport/Common/).
    – Cache: also on a different disk than my bootdrive and software storage (…/Lib/caches/Adobe/AE CS4.

You talk about a temporary project version that can ‘serve’ out to other cpu’s for rendering.
In an earlier thread (https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/202/888452) i mentioned a problem with AE when it started up. AE told me about 20 times in a popup that it could not connect to my server ‘MacBookPro’. This still happens unless i connect my Laptop to my MacPro.

Does it sound that these 2 problems are related to each other?

    Best,
    Jochum

[Jochum de Boer] “AE told me about 20 times in a popup that it could not connect to my server ‘MacBookPro’. This still happens unless i connect my Laptop to my MacPro.”

that seems odd… you might try resetting the prefs file in ae by holding command+option+shift when starting ae. then see if it will start without the mbp.

i’d also give that render a try with the default prefs just to test.

you could also try moving the ae prefs folder to the desktop (this will make ae rebuild everything in that folder). you find it in users/username/library/preferences/adobe/after effects/. move the folder called 9.0 to the desktop and launch ae.
