  • Cant Remove Erased Names From Easy Setup Menu

    Hi Friends,

I’ve created numerous customized Easy Setup profiles while experimenting with the Audio/Video Settings. Now I’m unable to remove those custom Easy Setups from the Easy Setups Pulldown Menu. I’ve searched in the Custom Settings folder in Application Support and found (some of) those objects relating to those profiles. I’ve trashed them, emptied the trash, and restarted my mac. Can’t get rid of them! Those profiles are still there.

I’ve search with Find and with Spotlight for those profile names. No luck-however my FCP drive is not journaled–so that may be messing up the searching. But where else would they be besides the Custom Settings Folder in Application Support

Any ideas how to fix this little bug?

    Thanks,
    Paul B

    Hey Paul

Its not a bug so much as its a lack of a feature ;-). When you create a setup it is written into your preferences file and there’s currently no way to effectively remove them thereafter other than by trashing your preferences and starting again. Why not drop a note to Apple’s FCP via their feedback page and ask for a means to manage the Easy Setups much as one can manage the other settings presets? There is a feature request for this submitted already but such requests carry more weight the more that folks ask for it.

In the meantime, as noted, you can trash your preferences and start over and/or manage preference sets through the use of invaluable apps like Jon Chappel’s superb FCS Preferences Manager, now at version 2.0.1 and getting better al the time:

Thanks Andy! Now I feel better for not being able to figure it out!

But I haven’t messed around with a preference since the OS9 days. Could you please tell me how to find that specific file? — I see a whole bunch of them.

I don’t mind starting over with Easy Setup–I wanted to ditch all the ‘practice’ set-ups first. I actually don’t have anything usable in there yet.

    Thanks again.

Easiest is to download and use the helper app linked above…

Quit FCP, then launch Preference Manager and press the Quick Trash button at lower left of the main window. Now reopen FCP and all will be back to factory default.
