I rendered a video in sony vegas 11 as .mp4 and i backed up that file to a usb drive since i was going to restore my computer. After i restored my computer and i installed sony vegas, it doesn’t let me put the clips in sony vegas. it says “None of the files dropped in Vegas Pro could be opened” and also i can’t play them in windows media player

Immediately after you rendered that video (before doing the restore), did you play it back and was it ok?

Google and download “mediainfo” and see what CODEC the file was encoded with.

just a thought – did you have Quicktime installed when you encoded the MP4 and not now?

I downloaded media info and it told me to download quicktime and i did, but it gives me an error, “Error -2048: Couldn’t open the file 1.mp4 because it is not a file that QuickTime understands.
